TENSION AT ADDRESS

TENSION AT ADDRESS

Tension is a killer. Relax and free up your swing shake hands with the grip and keep the arms soft. Swing the club initially in slow motion and once you have enhanced your feeling of softness and can feel the weight of the club head swing at normal speed. Keep your chin up as a further guard against tension in your shoulders. The more relaxed your body is the more rhythmic your swing will be and the more club head speed you will be able to produce.

SETUP

Too many golfers tend to take their stance and then plunk the club down. This causes them to build their aim around their stance. Your stance should be built around your aim by squaring the clubface first and then setting your feet. Try this:

  1. Square the club face behind the ball.
  2. Place your left foot in position. Thw placement of your left foot sets your ball position.
  3. Place your right foot in position. The stance width is created by the placement of the right foot.

To Fight a Hook

Comment
To Fight a Hook

Players who typically struggle with overactive hands and arms can use the split hands drill to promote a belt turn of the chest and torso through the ball. This will allow you to maintain a square clubface at impact (Facing more towards the target) with the right hand and forearm more underneath the left. Ideally as it approaches the ball the clubface should be squaring slowly in tandem with the rotating torso. The key to consistency is to find the right blend of body, hand and arm action.
